The Story so Far

After a lifetime of teachers misspelling my name, I graduated from Wayne State with my name spelled correctly on my diploma. I wrote for a small, print-only magazine in the downriver area of Metro-Detroit before moving to Kalamazoo for the M.F.A. Creative Writing Program. During that time, I worked as a graduate teaching assistant, wrote the first 100 pages of a novel that would become my thesis, and adapted to the challenges of online education during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following my M.F.A., I endured a period of unemployment. I spent 2020 applying for jobs, reading numerous books, and writing short stories until I accepted my current job.

My parents did not misspell my name on my birth certificate, but they did curse me with the burden of never being able to find a souvenir with my name on it.*

After four and a half years at my company, I am seeking my next career move. While I excelled in my role, I also engaged in a year-long mentorship with a Senior Writer on the Copywriting team. This mentorship provided me with valuable insights into internal and external communications, helped me develop a thick skin to handle feedback, and showed me how exciting it can be to transform a dull subject into something eye-catching. I am eager to bring my skills, knowledge, and creativity to a collaborative team to create something great.

In the meantime, I’m working on a novel, using substack as a public journal, and freelance creating content for a Detroit based circus troupe.

*Since ‘Mehgan’ is a Celtic spelling, I’m hoping to visit Ireland one day and find that mythical shot glass with a correct spelling

Where can you find Mehgan now?

If I’m not working my 9-5 or writing, here are the places you can find me:

staying active in the gym or w/ Stonewall Sports

buying books and/or plants I do not have room for

enjoying an iced americano or a cool craft beer flight

fun things I won’t stop talking about
